Vitamins A, D3, E and K are fat-soluble vitamins that play a very important role in protection, maintenance and increasing body immunity and resistance levels in poultry and livestock.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that increases body resistance against stress conditions.
Vitamin A protects and increases growth of epithelial cells and mucous membranes in various body organs. It is important in strengthening defense mechanism against bacterial and viral infections.
Vitamin D3 increases calcium and phosphorous absorption and enhances their concentration in blood, resulting in balance of essential salts and electrolytes. It also helps in proper calcium fixation in bones and eggshells.
Vitamin E regulates cellular oxidation and plays a vital role in metabolism of carbohydrates, muscle creatine and glycogen. Having antioxidant properties, it prevents oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and even Vitamin A. It is one of the most important nutrients for growth and activity enhancement in poultry and livestock, and it increases resistance and immunity during stress conditions.
Vitamin C takes part in oxidation-reduction reactions and helps synthesize steroid hormones, resulting in stronger body resistance. This vitamin strengthens mucous membranes, increases roosters’ fertility, hatchability rate, and shell quality. It also helps improve body resistance and reduce stress in calves and newborn foals up to 3 months of age.
Vitamin K directly interferes with prothrombin synthesis, preventing bleeding and accelerating clotting time. It is used to stop bleeding from different parts of the body and in surgical operations to reduce bleeding rate. Marked decreases of bleeding in coccidiosis, blood spots in eggs, and subdermal bleeding in poultry and livestock are achieved through Vitamin K supplementation. Vitamin K also has antitoxin properties and can be used alongside drugs with toxic side effects to reduce their toxicity.
